The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil by Stephen Collins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A surprisingly serious topic in a not-so-serious title.
I really enjoyed The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil for its simplicity, in the drawings and in the storyline. There is a location known as "here" and everything is orderly. And in "there" everything is chaotic. And that's how the people want to keep it. But then one day, a man grows a Gigantic Beard that cannot be tamed, or cut.
The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil deals with our perceptions of other people's lives, and how we discriminate based off of people who are different then we are. It's a crazy-quick read, as there are many pages that have little to no words and are mostly just pictures meant for the reader to just take it all in. I really enjoyed it, but I wish it had been a tad bit longer.
