Persepolis: The Story of A Childhood Review

I wasn’t ready for the ending.

Persepolis follows Marjane’s (Marji) childhood story of growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution. Since the book is told through a child’s eyes the book is sometimes silly, and a lot of the gore understated. The violence and “scary” scenes were almost so understated that you’d have to go back and reread the passage. I think this really added to the story as a whole.

Something to also think about is how lucky we all are to be able to buy music and jean jackets, without the fear of getting killed, or getting called a slut. It's strange how some people find it okay to judge someone based off of one experience, or one sighting.
